WHAT HELPS SOOTHE DRY, BLEMISHED SKIN? SKINCARE TIPS

Your skin is made up of several layers, all of which are responsible for protecting your body. The outermost layer of the skin, the epidermis, forms a kind of protective shield to keep everyday environmental aggressors away. It prevents the penetration of bacteria and fungi, protects you from UV rays, keeps the moisture balance intact, and drains toxins from your body.

But what happens when your skin isn't at its best? What can you do if you are prone to dry, blemished skin that is also dry? Which skincare products are best when the skin's protective barrier is out of balance and impurities on the skin start to form? DRY AND PRONE TO BLEMISHES - A CHALLENGING SKIN CONDITION

Dry skin needs intense moisture, while blemished skin needs mild but effective cleansing. This is the generally shared opinion - and it's not wrong! This may suggest an “either-or” approach, but you can address both with a targeted dry skin care routine that focuses on skin barrier repair and gentle exfoliation.

Whether you have dry or blemished skin, facial cleansing and moisturizing dry skin are essential to rebuild the skin's natural protective barrier. It may seem strange to you to counteract impurities with moisturizer. However, both dry and blemished or dry, blemished skin need moisture.

For dry, blemished skin, a rich moisturizer replenishes the skin's moisture storage, makes the skin more elastic, and counteracts increasing cornification. This in turn keeps the pores clear and allows excess sebum to drain away, which is a basic requirement for clear skin. Thus, moisture also has an impact on pimples, acne, redness, blackheads, and other signs of blemished skin.

WHICH PRODUCTS ARE BEST FOR DRY AND BLEMISHED SKIN?

Especially needy, dehydrated skin benefits from moisturizing dry skin treatments with skin-soothing ingredients. Follow these steps for an effective dry blemished skin care regimen:

1. Cleansing - the foundation of any routine

Start every morning with a gentle, non-stripping facial cleanser or micellar water to remove excess oil and impurities. Look for a cleanser that protects the skin barrier, since this can worsen both dry skin and blemishes. The Aquasource Hydra Barrier Cleanser is a non-drying cream-to-foam cleanser that cleanses while strengthening the skin barrier.

2. Balancing toner - underrated but essential

Facial toners are an underrated tool in regenerating the protective barrier of dry, blemished skin. It's not only a vitalizing beauty essential for the day in the morning, but should also be used in the evening to purify the skin. A toner has three important functions in your skincare routine:

  • It removes remaining impurities and optimally prepares your skin for the following products
  • It regulates the pH value of your skin and creates a good balance between cleansing and skin care. Toners are therefore ideal for every skin type - from normal to oily skin.
  • It can serve as an initial skincare treatment by moisturizing and soothing your skin - it's great for sensitive skin

The Biosource Hydrating & Softening Toner is soothing, gentle, and moisturizing — perfect for dry, blemished skin.

3. Skincare - lock in moisture with a day and night cream (and serum)

Before you apply a face cream, it's recommended to use a moisturizing serum. Especially for dry, blemished skin, a hydrating serum helps to deeply moisturize the skin for longer. Unlike creams, serums are lighter and have a higher concentration of active ingredients. The Life Plankton Regenerating Serum, for example, protects, nourishes, and regenerates your skin - and all of this is deeply effective and thus particularly long lasting. Two types of hyaluronic acid and 5% Biotech Plankton™ ensure that the face serum is particularly moisturizing yet does not clog pores.

The day or night cream is then used to provide protection, nourishment and moisture. Here it is recommended to use moisturizers containing salicylic acid, such as the Aquasource Hyalu Plump Gel. This skincare treatment provides long-lasting moisture and reduces skin impurities. It is also enriched with Biotech Plankton™ and thus increases the skin's regenerative capacity.

The moisturizer used at night can also be a little richer, because while you sleep, the skin regeneration works at full speed. Aquasource Hydra Barrier Cream provides 72 hours of hydration, while reinforcing the skin barrier. It’s formulated with Biotech Plankton™ and bio-ceramides for the most optimal hydration and protection. The cooling effect of the cream is very pleasant on the skin.

EXTRA CARE FOR DRY, BLEMISHED SKIN

Give your skin extra attention once or twice a week with these dry skin remedies:

  • Mild exfoliation: use a gentle scrub to remove flaky skin and deeply cleanse your skin. It also optimally prepares your skin for the absorption of subsequent products. However, be careful not to use an exfoliator with harsh ingredients. These can damage the outer layer of your skin, causing your epidermis to regenerate slowly and sometimes not fully
  • Face masks: hydrating face masks contain a high percentage of active ingredients and effectively support the regeneration of your skin. Sheet masks deliver concentrated moisture and often contain skin-soothing ingredients.
  • Facial steam: a facial steam works wonders to open pores and clear debris. Additives in the water, such as salt or chamomile tea, also have a purifying effect. After a 10-minute steam bath, you should rinse your face with cold water and then apply a moisturizing face cream.

Post-Summer Recovery

After months of sun exposure, your skin can feel extra dry and blemish-prone. The heat is drying, while the humidity can make you sweat more, clogging pores and making your skin more blemish-prone. Keep up with the suggested skincare routine we outlined above, including regular cleansing, adding balancing serums, moisturizers, and weekly facial treatments.

Consistency is key when treating dry, blemished skin. Build your dry skin care routine around these steps and products, and you’ll see a calmer, more radiant complexion in just a few weeks.
