FACIAL CARE FOR MEN: THIS IS HOW MEN CAN TAKE PERFECT CARE OF THEIR SKIN

Here, we will tell you how to take the best care of your skin and which men's skincare products are particularly suitable for this.

MEN'S SKIN

Is a well-thought-out skincare routine only for women? Anything but! Men's skin deal with more than just everyday stresses such as harmful environmental aggressors. You know what it's like: it was a long night with very little sleep, and it shows. Circles under the eyes and puffy, blemished skin say it all. Caring for the beard is also always a challenge for the skin on the face. Whether its irritation or inflamed hair roots, every shave puts a strain on the skin. So, in addition to the already stressful factors such as dry or oily skin, men's facial skin also has special needs. But how do these signs of fatigue, age, and stress actually occur? It's worth taking a look at how the (facial) skin is actually structured.

The human skin consists of three[1] layers:

DIFFERENCES COMPARED TO WOMEN'S SKIN

Men's connective tissue fibers interconnect in all directions. Those of women, on the other hand, run perpendicular to the skin's surface. Men's skin is 13 percent thicker than women's, which means they visually age more slowly and their skin appears more robust[3].

But men's skin also loses collagen steadily from the age of about 25, which can lead to the first fine lines and wrinkles. So, men supposedly age more slowly, but around the age of 30, the signs of aging also reach the surface of their skin and thus at this point they often age relatively suddenly. So, men's skin is not younger, only thicker.

WHAT SKIN TYPE DO I HAVE?

To meet the needs of your skin and develop the right men's skincare routine, it's important to know what skin type you have. Human skin can be roughly divided into four different types: Basically, skin types can be divided into four different categories: normal skin, dry skin, oily (blemished) skin, and combination skin.

NORMAL SKIN

Normal skin means that the skin is healthy and balanced. Nothing can upset it quickly and it does not flake or shine. With this skin type, everything is balanced, yet it needs support to stay that way.

DRY SKIN

You can recognize dry skin by the fact that it can look flaky, cracked, and brittle. Dry skin tends to itch and feel tight. Hormones, nutrition, and stress are often the causes here. But hot summer air, cold winter air, air conditioning, heating, and wind can also strip your skin of moisture. Do you always take a hot shower or bath? This can also promote brittle skin.

OILY SKIN

You can recognize oily skin by the fact that your face often shines. Basically, this skin type has the advantage that the skin is always well moisturized and there is less of a need to apply cream. The skin is very robust and healthy. The sex hormone testosterone is responsible for the intense shine, which stimulates sebum production. However, if impurities, environmental factors, or stress come into play, the skin can become confused - pimples, acne, and impurities develop.

COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin can often be oily, but suffers from dry patches outside the T-zone due to various factors. The factors are then the same as those for the skin type with dry skin. The forehead, nose, and chin are often oily when it comes to combination skin, but the cheeks tend to be dry.

ADDITIONAL SKIN FACTORS

Of course, factors such as impurities or the type of facial care, for example, how often you shave, or even light sensitivity and skin tone must also be taken into account. Based on your skin type, it is then necessary to choose suitable men's skincare products.

In addition to the four skin types, there are also different skin conditions such as sensitive skin, impure skin, or mature skin. Skin conditions, except for mature skin, are usually temporary and can affect any skin type.

For example, your skin may be oily and sensitive at the same time. Mature skin, on the other hand, occurs sooner or later in each of us. It is a testament to the amount of time passed. In fact, with age, the skin develops and changes its appearance. Mature skin usually lacks moisture and elasticity. Wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots arise.

WHICH SKINCARE PRODUCTS ARE BEST FOR WHICH SKIN TYPE?

Once you know your skin type, it's time to find the right facial care for your men's skin

SKIN CARE FOR MEN WITH NORMAL SKIN

Men with this skin type can consider themselves lucky. Nevertheless, there is still a need for action here to ensure that the healthy balance is also maintained. This is because irritations can always occur and throw the skin's balance out of whack. Increasing age and UV rays also impact this skin type. It is therefore important to be active with the right moisturizing skincare product and, if necessary, to use anti-aging and sun protection products as needed.

SKIN CARE FOR MEN WITH DRY SKIN

Dry skin in men is mainly caused by very cold air, dry air from heating systems, or a less than optimal skincare routine. If the water is too hot or the cleansing products unsuitable or too aggressive, the skin can quickly become dry. It also weakens the skin's protective barrier, which is a natural shield. Without this protection, the skin is more susceptible to harmful environmental influences and the first signs of aging, such as small wrinkles around the eyes, develop more quickly.

You can revitalize and rehydrate your skin with the right skincare products. A rich moisturizer for men intensely hydrates dry skin, provides deep care, and also has an anti-aging effect. You should also make sure to wash your face with lukewarm water only and use a gentle cleanser. Dry skin needs one thing above all: skincare products that return moisture to the skin and retain it there. These skincare products should therefore contain active ingredients that have precisely these properties. These include:

SKIN CARE FOR MEN WITH OILY SKIN

Oily skin is caused by an overproduction of sebum. The sebaceous glands produce this oily substance to form a protective film over the skin and thus stop harmful external aggressors. However, if this production is increased, whether through hereditary predisposition, stress, or a poor diet, the pores can become clogged. This manifests itself in enlarged, sometimes inflamed pores and a greasy film on the skin. This also provides a surface for bacteria to attack. The result is blackheads and pimples.

Oily skin in men therefore requires the right clarifying face care. This gently cleanses the face without putting more strain on them. In addition, the use of a peeling gel is recommended. This gently removes excess skin particles - blackheads do not form in the first place.

SKIN CARE FOR MEN WITH COMBINATION SKIN

If you have combination skin, then you should treat the different zones of your face individually according to their needs. Is your T-zone oily and prone to blemishes? Use a mild cleanser for the whole face, but also regularly use an exfoliating gel which you only apply to the T-zone. The thinner skin around the eyes benefits from a skin tightening eye serum.

The dry areas on the cheeks are rejuvenated with a firming moisturizing serum, making them look refreshed and rosy again.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MATURE SKIN?

As we get older, signs of aging can appear. The skin loses elasticity and moisture, so the complexion often looks sallow and dull. This appearance is also caused by the fact that, with age, the skin is usually more prone to dryness and tends to become more sensitive. Now it's time for a deep-acting anti-aging skincare product that intensely supplies your skin with nutrients and regenerates it.

Force Supreme Blue Serum, Force Supreme Cream

Enriched with Algae of Youth™ extract, Life Plankton™ and Pro-Xylane™, the Force Supreme Cream responds to all signs of aging. The anti-aging cream tightens sagging skin, makes it more resistant, and strengthens the skin's structure. Applied as a day and night cream, the skin is strengthened, plumped, and tightened. For maximum efficiency, you can combine the anti-aging cream for men with the Force Supreme Blue Serum, a serum specially formulated to reduce wrinkles, firm the skin, and increase its elasticity. With this kind of anti-aging skincare routine, sagging, dry skin is hydrated, smoothed, and revitalized.

MORE TIPS FOR YOUR ANTI-AGING FACE CARE

Especially in their 30s and 40s, many men notice the typical signs of skin aging. Wrinkles become more pronounced, fine lines appear, facial skin becomes drier. It therefore makes sense for a man to deal with the topic of "anti-aging" early enough in order to prevent and alleviate these signs at an early stage.

The tips mentioned in the section above form a solid foundation for your anti-aging care.

You should pay particular attention to the influence of the sun, because UV rays make our skin age faster [4] . You need reliable protection, especially if you are often outside or do sports outdoors.

A day cream and moisturizer with sun protection factor (SPF) is therefore an important anti-aging product to include in your daily facial care routine.

AFTERSHAVE AND MORE: MEN'S SKIN CARE FOR A GENTLE SHAVE

Whether you just trim your beard or shave it off completely, every shave can stress your skin. A wet shave especially can cause the surface of the skin to become rough and thus irritated. Every man is familiar with clogged or inflamed hair roots, and the resulting pimples or even the so-called razor burn.

Cleansing helps to best protect your skin from this. First cleanse the beard and face with lukewarm water or a gentle cleansing gel. Then lather the beard hair with a suitable shaving gel or foam and leave this on to act for a few minutes. Then shave as usual. Tip: shaving against the grain provides a smoother result, but also strains the skin more.

After shaving comes one of the most important steps, which is caring for the skin. For this you should use an after shave. If your skin is already irritated, look for extra gentle formulas. Soothing products are best suited for gentle facial care
