BIOTHERM’S PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in the ocean and landfills, hurting animals, ecosystems, and our planet as a whole. The beauty industry has a responsibility to cut waste, and Biotherm is taking concrete action. Guided by our Water Lover program, we’re working toward fully circular packaging, more respectful formulas, and ongoing support for ocean research.
From BIOTHERM
Our commitments at a glance
Our team at Biotherm has ambitious objectives to improve our sustainability. Here are our three ambitious objectives that we plan to reach by 2030, centered around three key pillars:
Plastic circularity
In 2023, we reached a new milestone: 50% of all plastic in our packaging came from recycled sources. By 2030, our target is to have 100% of our plastic packaging be refillable, rechargeable, recyclable, or biodegradable to minimize our impact on aquatic life in the oceans.
For example, our Waterlover Sun Milk’s bottle is made with 100% Ocean-Bound Plastic, made from recycled plastic that would have otherwise polluted the ocean. Plus, the formula is eco-tested in marine conditions and isn’t harmful to plant and animal life.
Respectful formulas
By 2030, we’re dedicated to making all of our skincare formulas be more respectful of aquatic life. We’re partnering with biologists to formulate our products with effective skincare ingredients that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Aquatic biodiversity
We’re also committed to protecting our oceans with our NGO partners. Since 2012, Biotherm has donated over $1.5 million to its NGO partners to aid in ocean conservation. We plan to have a local NGO partner for every local Biotherm market to organize locally relevant environmental actions, such as beach cleanings.
We proudly support our research partners, climate action partners, and influential partners. Our Water Lovers program has been active and thriving since 2012, dedicated to making eco-designed products that protect our waters and are gentle on marine life. We continue to value our ongoing partnerships with organizations such as Mission Blue, Tara Ocean Foundation, and Surfrider Foundation Europe.
