How to treat stretch marks

Stretch marks are a very common condition, affecting both women and men. They can appear at any age, but are most common during adolescence, when our bodies are changing. But why do they form and how can we best treat them?

Let's take a look together.

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks are alterations in the skin that appear as horizontal or vertical stripes.

Visually they can be different colors, depending on their state of development. They can be:

  • Red, when newly formed, often accompanied by generalized redness and itching;
  • White, when time passes.

They usually appear on the breasts, thighs, hips, and belly.

Why stretch marks form

The skin is one of the most elastic organs in the human body, thanks to the presence of elastin and collagen, two proteins that make the skin toned and elastic.

But the skin is also continually subjected to stress, and in some cases, there may be an injury, leading to the appearance of stretch marks.

This can occur for several reasons:

  • Pregnancy and lactation;
  • Sudden weight changes;
  • Puberty;
  • Genetic factors.

When the skin undergoes sudden changes, as in the case of adolescent development or pregnancy, stretch marks are more likely to form.

How to treat stretch marks

In order to counteract the appearance of stretch marks, a few small steps need to be followed. Stretch marks also often appear because of skin dehydration: poorly hydrated skin will be less elastic and therefore more prone to their development. It is therefore necessary to keep it hydrated at all times, drinking 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day.

UV rays are among the main culprits of skin aging, so before you expose yourself to the sun's rays, you should always apply sunscreen to your body and face, even when going about your daily business Periodically, it is advisable to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells and promote cell renewal. You can choose the most suitable scrub to renew your skin according to your skin type.

It is also important always to apply a moisturizing cream or oil to the skin, preferably after showering: after thorough cleansing, the skin will be more receptive to the products you apply. Hydrated skin is more resistant to external aggressions and skin aging, and will be better able to combat the appearance of those pesky stretch marks.

Treatments for stretch marks

To treat stretch marks, you need to keep your skin hydrated and elastic. To do this, Biotherm has come up with two products that are perfect for your skin.

Lait Corporel Body Milk is a moisturizing product to be applied daily. This body milk has a triple function: it moisturizes dry skin, restores the protective barrier and protects the skin's natural elasticity.

It has a light texture that is non-greasy and non-sticky – the product is easily absorbed into the skin, leaving it perfectly moisturized and more supple.

The body milk should be applied to cleansed skin. Its delicate citrus extract scent will make application a moment of absolute relaxation.

Biotherm also recommends Life Plankton Multi-Corrective Body Oil, a corrective body oil designed specifically to combat the signs of stretch marks.

Is formula contains oils of natural origin (canola oil, sweet almond oil and olive oil) and Life Plankton, combined for powerful action against stretch marks, roughness and dry areas of the skin.

This body oil helps the skin regain its natural moisture and makes it softer and more hydrated. It can be applied morning and evening and, thanks to its light texture, does not make the skin greasy, but leaves it silky and soft.
