LIPEDEMA OR CELLULITE? TIPS FOR REDUCING ORANGE PEEL

Mother Nature is sometimes unfair. While men rarely have to worry about pesky dimples on their butts, thighs, and upper arms, many women fight with their cellulite. However, skin dimples are not a disease, many of us perceive orange peel skin simply as an aesthetic flaw. The situation is different with lipedema. This is a clinical condition that can be accompanied by chronic pain. Here, we will explain the differences and tell you what you can do to reduce cellulite.

LIPEDEMA OR CELLULITE? TIPS FOR REDUCING ORANGE PEEL

THIS IS HOW YOU RECOGNIZE LIPEDEMA

In cellulite, fat cells push through the network of connective tissue and become visible on the outside as dimples. In lipedema, the structure of the fatty tissue changes. This disease only affects women after puberty. The causes of lipedema are not yet fully understood, but it is thought to occur due to hormones.

While orange peel skin at best causes us discomfort, lipedema can really cause pain. You can't make cellulite disappear, but you can fight it with a healthy diet, exercise, and the right skincare products. In case of lipedema, medical advice is needed. But when do you know if you should seek treatment? In the early stages, it is not easy to recognize lipedema or tell it apart from obesity and orange peel skin. These tips can help identify the fat distribution disorder:

  • Sensitivity to touch and pressure and experiences of pain and rapid fatigue
  • Quick bruising and bruises
  • Feelings of tightness
  • Dents and nodules under the skin
  • Symmetrical, often spontaneous volume increases
  • Uneven proportions/deformation
  • Bulging
  • Noticeable fat deposits on the inside of the knees
  • Lipedema occurs primarily on the legs (hips and/or upper and/or lower legs) and arms.

As soon as you show symptoms and suspect to have lipedema, you should consult a doctor and get advice. If it ends up just being orange peel skin, here are a few tips on what you can do about cellulite.

TIPS FOR REDUCING CELLULITE

  1. Don't consider orange peel skin as a blemish

Don't start doubting your appearance. You're not too fat just because your skin isn't super tight and smooth all over. Obesity does provoke cellulite, but even very slim people struggle with those pesky dimples. Genes also play a role in cellulite. Say goodbye to the beauty ideology that only perfectly smooth, firm legs are beautiful. Blemishes are part of our body and make us unique!

  2. Keep a healthy lifestyle

In principle, the tendency to develop cellulite is present in all of us. However, stress, weak connective tissue and weak muscles, as well as being overweight, can promote its appearance. A balanced diet with lots of vegetables, vitamins, little sugar, and sufficient fluids (water) as well as regular downtime will positively benefit your metabolism. Avoid nicotine as much as possible - smoking can increase cellulite.

  3. Regular exercise

This prevents you from being overweight, but also boosts your metabolism. Schedule regular exercise sessions into your daily routine. You should focus on a mix of strength and endurance training, because where there is muscle, there is no room for fat. One reason why fat cells appear in the form of orange peel skin is the loss of connective tissue elasticity, which makes it easier for fatty tissue to spread. Participating regularly in sports boosts the energy metabolism. Exercise can thus counteract the loss of connective tissue elasticity, promote smooth and firm skin, and prevent new dimples from forming.

  4. Alternating showers & massages

Alternating between warm and cold temperatures stimulates the metabolism and can improve the appearance of the skin. Unfortunately, the dents cannot simply be showered away. Carrying out pinching massages or using a massage glove on a regular basis are also highly recommended. In this way, you promote blood circulation an prepare your skin for the subsequent skincare products.

  5. Anti-cellulite products for firm connective tissue

There is no miracle cure for cellulite, but there are some effective skincare products for toned legs and a tight bottom. Look out for circulation-promoting and firming active ingredients such as retinol, green tea, algae extract, or caffeine.

The combination of powerful anti-cellulite products and massages promotes blood circulation and stimulates lymph flow. The connective tissue is better supplied with oxygen and important nutrients and your skin texture improves in the long term.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN - IT'S THE MIX THAT MAKES IT

Although there is no cure for cellulite, these tips can help you improve its appearance. Don't put yourself under pressure and say goodbye to the idea that your skin has to be smooth and tight. A balanced diet, exercise, caring for your skin properly, and healthy feelings of self-awareness can work wonders!
