MAKE YOUR OWN BODY LOTION - THE BEST TIPS FOR YOUR OWN BODY LOTION

A good body lotion is the be-all and end-all when caring for dry areas of the body. Whether after sunbathing in summer, after shaving or with brittle and dry skin in winter - the body lotion cares for the skin and provides it with moisture. A long bath in winter or a nice shower followed by body care with a fragrant body lotion can be a soothing time out that allows the body to relax. To completely avoid chemical ingredients such as mineral oils, it is a good idea to make your own body lotion. How this works and what advantages it has to make the body lotion itself, you will learn in the following article.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF MAKING YOUR OWN BODY LOTION?

Sensitive skin in particular reacts irritably to chemical ingredients and strong aromas. In order not to additionally irritate the skin, but to soothe it, natural ingredients should be used. If you make your own body lotion, you will know exactly which ingredients are contained and how they react on the skin. Besides, it also saves a lot of packaging waste if you make your body lotion yourself. If you fill your body lotion in sturdy plastic bottles or cans, you can use them again and again instead of buying new products and thus new plastic containers. This is not only easy on the wallet, but also on the environment.

BODY LOTION - WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR IT?

You do not need many ingredients to make your own body lotion. Don't worry, you don't have to go shopping, because you might already have some ingredients at home anyway. Of course, your body lotion should be adapted to your individual skin needs: If your skin is prone to dryness and rough patches, different ingredients should be used than if you are prone to acne and pimples. In detail, the following products are particularly suitable:

  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil
  • Almond oil
  • Shea butter
  • Cocoa butter
  • Aloe vera
  • Essential oils
  • Jojoba oil
  • Beeswax

COCONUT OIL - DREAMY FRAGRANCE AND MOISTURIZING

You may already know coconut oil, as it is just as suitable in the kitchen as it is in cosmetics and skin care. The oil is available in liquid form or in a somewhat more solid consistency. You should use coconut oil to make your own body lotion if your skin is very dry, as the oil is particularly rich in fat and therefore provides your skin with ideal moisture. With a firmer consistency, coconut oil gives your homemade body lotion a particularly creamy texture and is therefore well suited to make too-liquid body lotion firmer. In addition, coconut oil has an antibacterial and cleansing effect.

OLIVE OIL - MEDITERRANEAN AND HEALTHY

Olive oil is also very suitable for making your own body lotion. Especially on the shins and elbows, the skin often tends to dry and tense skin. Thanks to olive oil, especially these skin areas are supplied with rich moisture and sustainably maintained. Olive oil is generally considered a very healthy oil, so why shouldn't it work just as well on the skin?

ALMOND OIL - GENTLE CARE WITH HEALTHY FATTY ACIDS

Almond oil consists of many healthy fatty acids that the skin can absorb well. Thus, the homemade body lotion with almond oil is also absorbed particularly quickly and leaves hardly any residue on the skin. In addition, almond oil is very odorless and is therefore well suited for particularly sensitive skin.

CREAMY TEXTURE THANKS TO SHEA BUTTER

If you want to make a particularly creamy body lotion, shea butter is very suitable. The creamy texture of shea butter ensures that your body lotion gets the ideal consistency and can act pleasantly on the skin. In addition, shea butter contains many important vitamins with which you can care for your skin. In addition, it has an antibacterial effect and therefore prevents impurities.

SOFT CHOCOLATE NOTE THANKS TO COCOA BUTTER

Equally greasing and therefore suitable for dry skin is cocoa butter. This product makes even the driest skin soft and smooth. The homemade body lotion is therefore particularly moisturizing and provides your skin with long-lasting moisture. In addition, it gives a fine chocolate scent.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY BODY LOTION WITH ALOE VERA

Especially in summer, a body lotion with aloe vera can be particularly pleasant, because aloe vera has a cooling effect. The gel of the natural plant also has an anti-inflammatory effect and therefore prevents skin diseases, such as neurodermatitis.

PLEASANT FRAGRANCE THANKS TO ESSENTIAL OILS

If you attach great importance to a pleasant scent when making your own body lotion, then essential oils are recommended. You can add these to your body lotion at the end. Lavender oil, for example, smells particularly good and has a relaxing effect. On the other hand, you get an antibacterial effect by adding tea tree oil. Rose oil is also particularly popular, which gives your body lotion a delicate, flowery scent.

JOJOBA OIL FOR OILY SKIN

The addition of jojoba oil is especially useful if your skin is prone to impurities and clogged pores. The jojoba oil ensures a regulated outflow of sebum from the skin, so that your pores are cleaned. In addition, it ensures the formation of new tissue and is odorless.

BEESWAX HAS AN ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT

Beeswax also has an antibacterial effect. Therefore, it is also well suited for skin prone to impurities or particularly sensitive skin. In addition, you give your homemade body lotion with beeswax a nice consistency, so that the product melts delicately into the skin when applied.

RECIPE FOR A NOURISHING BODY LOTION

You can make your own body lotion in no time at all. Even if you have no experience in cosmetics or skin care, it's no problem, because the body lotion itself succeed in any case.

So you can make your own body lotion with shea butter:

  • Put some shea butter and olive oil in a blender or mixing bowl
  • Depending on how much of the body lotion you want to make, you should use more of the ingredients or less accordingly
  • Then mix vigorously for approx. 2 minutes or mix well with a whisk
  • Depending on your preference, you can add essential oils for that special scent
  • Then fill the body lotion into a jar or a tin, which you can seal airtight - so the body lotion lasts for several months

WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR A SPECIALLY-MADE BODY LOTION?

When making your own body lotion, you should pay particular attention to using only natural ingredients. Preservatives or similar should not be present in the homemade body lotion. In addition, it is important to seal the product airtight to ensure its shelf life. Feel free to try different natural ingredients and recipes, sometimes it takes a while to find the ideal mixture for your individual skin needs.

WHEN SHOULD HOMEMADE BODY LOTION BE AVOIDED?

A homemade body lotion is not suitable for severe skin diseases that require special care. Although a non-greasy body lotion is particularly mild and therefore also suitable for sensitive skin, but skin treatments and diseases should always rely on the advice of the doctor. As soon as special medical skin care products are used or these have even been prescribed by the doctor, only these should also be used. Likewise, in case of severe skin burns, it is unsuitable to use homemade body lotion.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD BODY LOTION?

In addition, or as an alternative to making your own body lotion, you can of course also continue to use care products from the retail trade. However, make sure that you use a high-quality product that does not harm your skin. Natural ingredients are always a good indication that the product is as natural as possible and cares for your skin with healthy ingredients.

For example, the Life Plankton™ Multi-Corrective Body Milk from Biotherm is particularly suitable for firming skin care. This body lotion contains nourishing canola, almond and olive oils and thus provides the skin with long-lasting moisture. In addition, this firming body milk is suitable for particularly sensitive skin.

The Oil Therapy Baume Corps body cream from Biotherm provides equally rich care thanks to precious oils. It consists of musk rose oil, passion flower oil and apricot oil. This not only gives your skin an irresistible scent but also ensures radiantly beautiful skin.

The Beurre Corporel body lotion from Biotherm convinces with its creamy texture. At the same time, it has a very moisturizing effect and was specially developed for very dry skin. The body cream leaves the skin feeling pleasant without being greasy.

Likewise also works the Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Lotion which provides particularly intensive moisture and also makes the skin supple.
