MEN'S GROOMING: EVERYTHING MEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FACIAL CLEANSING AND SKIN CARE

Men's skin is not the same as women's skin - and so, of course, the skin care differs. The issue here involves more than just the fact that men's skin is far hairier than women's due to the beard. While female skin ranges from normal to oily, dry to blemished, or sensitive, male skin is more robust and is usually classified as normal, oily or blemished. As soon as it comes to facial cleansing for men and the subsequent skincare routine, you should therefore consider your individual skin condition and its special needs. Here, we will tell you what you have to pay special attention to and how to clean your skin!

MEN'S GROOMING: EVERYTHING MEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FACIAL CLEANSING AND SKIN CARE

FOCUS: MEN'S SKIN - A BRIEF OVERVIEW

Men's skin is more robust than women's skin. Thanks to testosterone, men's skin is up to 20% thicker than female skin. The skin-firming structural protein collagen is also arranged to form networks in men's skin, and is therefore more cell-supportive - this also means that the skin loses its elasticity later compared to women’s skin and wrinkles also appear later. What's more, the hydrolipid film is more stable and better supplied with blood, which means that men's skin does not lose moisture or become dry so quickly.

However, men's skin also has fundamentally larger pores, which makes it more susceptible to impurities such as pimples and blackheads. Men's skin is therefore more often blemished or oily than that of women's. So, when choosing suitable cleansing and skincare products, you should not only make sure that they are intended for men's skin, but the products must also be tailored to the individual skin type.

FACIAL CLEANSING FOR MEN - SKIN TYPE-SPECIFIC CLEANSING INSTRUCTIONS

Just like the subsequent skincare routine, the facial cleansing products for men should also be tailored to your individual skin type. Here you will find an overview for:

  • Oily skin: here the pores are enlarged and clearly visible. The T-zone, i.e., the area consisting of the forehead, nose, and chin, is often shiny with this skin type. The advantage is that oily skin ages slower than dry skin, but this advantage has its "price": the shine is usually annoying and often also leads to pimples and blackheads.

Reaching for aggressive cleansers when you have oily skin may seem logical, but it's the exact wrong thing to do. The skin gets out of balance due to the drying effect of the cleansing products and reacts with increased oil production, making it even shinier. Therefore, if you have oily skin, you should use mild, mattifying facial cleansing products such as T-Pur Cleanser. The facial cleanser clarifies, regulates sebum production, and absorbs oil from the skin's surface thanks to volcanic rock.
  • Blemished skin here, the pores are also enlarged and, in most cases, clogged. This means that the excess sebum cannot drain away. This encourages the formation of pimples. In terms of cleansing, it must also be a gentle but effective clarifying product that cleans and unclogs pores. The T-Pur Cleanser is also suitable for cleaning the pores.
  • Combination skin: if you have slightly oily skin and normal or dry skin at the same time, your skin type is called combination skin. The challenge here is to simultaneously remove excess oil and moisturize the skin. For your skin type, a mild facial cleanser for men that cleanses and regenerates is suitable - such as the refreshing Aquapower Cleanser.
  • Normal skin: if you can't identify your skin type in the above descriptions, you have normal skin, the easiest skin type to care for. Nevertheless, you should only use mild and pH-neutral products so that your skin does not dry out. The Purifying Foaming Cleanser cleanses your skin gently and without soap, and at the same time prepares your face for shaving.

SHAVING - TIPS AND PRODUCTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SHAVE

For many men, shaving every day is an integral part of their morning grooming routine. In the same way, facial cleansing should also be included and should take place before shaving. This is the perfect way to prepare your facial skin for the upcoming shave - it doesn't matter whether you prefer a wet shave or a dry razor. Since every shave can irritate the skin, you should always use a mild shaving foam - again, with a product that suits your skin type! The Sensitive Force shaving foam does your skin good no matter your skin type, because it effectively prevents shaving pimples, razor burn and micro injuries, protects your skin protective barrier with aloe vera and Life Plankton™ and ensures a well-cared-for complexion after shaving.

Application tip: lather your face thoroughly and then shave in the direction of hair growth, to avoid pimples and skin irritation. Then rinse the face with warm water

Shaving tip: change the razor blades or the razor regularly. If you shave every day, you should replace the razor blade after two weeks at the latest.

After shaving, you can protect your skin with an aftershave to refresh your skin. However, you should also consider your skin type. Men with normal skin can use a normal aftershave containing alcohol. However, if you have dry, oily, or combination skin, you should use less aggressive products to prevent irritation and pimples. The soothing Anti-Feu du Rasoir skincare product is a good choice here, for example.

The last step: facial care for clear skin

After shaving and to finish the skincare routine for men, you should treat your face to a moisturizer every day. After all, the skin on the face is probably the most exposed part of the body. Formulated with Life Plankton™ and vitamins, Aquapower moisturizing facial cream by Biotherm Homme protects your skin from the elements and gives it the ability to regenerate.

TIPS FOR FACIAL CLEANSING AND SKIN CARE FOR MEN:

  • Pat dry instead of rubbing: the skin on your face will thank you for this gentler way of drying it.
  • Peeling treatment: apply a micro-peeling treatment to your skin once or twice a week to rid it of dead skin cells and stimulate the blood circulation - it will thank you with a clearer complexion!
  • Sun protection: you can prevent premature aging of the skin with the right sun protection. UV radiation damages your skin and can cause irreversible changes in your skin cells. You can avoid this with an SPF day cream
  • Healthy lifestyle: a healthy lifestyle is also good for your skin. Cytotoxins, such as alcohol and nicotine, damage your skin just as much as lack of sleep or stress. A balanced diet with lots of vitamins and sufficient water intake will improve your skin appearance from the inside.
